AN ART DECO CELLULOID AND RHINESTONE BOLSTER COMPACT DANCE PURSE, CIRCA 1920, the cylindrical green celluloid compact case marbled with pale green and dark green inclusions throughout, the lid emphasized by a central incised rectangle, the border ornamented with white and orange rhinestones and orange celluloid accented corners framing a single column of orange rhinestones, the hinged case terminating in a pendant black and green domed cap issuing a dramatic black silk corded tassel, a black rope wrist handle tied to double ball-and-joint clasp opening to reveal two compartments, the lid's interior with a small cream woven pocket opposite the full length black divider which flips up and reverses to a rectangular mirror opposite a face pad applicator and two pink rouge pots retaining light pink and fuchsia pigments above and below "Jeunesse/de/Fleur" in gilt script serigraphy, suspended height: 18", case, diameter: 2"; a brown suede compact necessaire, the rectangular case with gilt brass fittings accenting the conformingly shaped textured and gilt embossed ornamental plate featuring an intricate geometric and foliate design with an overall central star motif, the ends of the suede handle terminating in matching tassles flanking the ball casp opening and reversing to a full length rectangular mirror which can be pulled forward to reveal a suede lined pocket backing opposite an integral gilt brass tray with a square aperture for makeup compact, a circular compartment housing a pink feather powder puff, and a narrow rectangular space containing an empty gilt petite lipstick bullet, suspended height: 9 3/4".

Both in good condition. It appears that a few of the rhinestones decorating the exterior of the green celluloid dance purse have been replaced, and rouge pots contained within are not necessarily original to the compact. The rectangular cream celluloid frame bordering the interior mirror is fractured, i.e. the mirror is not broken, the plastic molding around the mirror has a break, which can be repaired by an expert. Otherwise in excellent overall condition, considering the age of the accessory. The brown suede necessaire with a few areas of wear, such as the first signs of light patina along the exterior sides, patches of losses on the corners and edges of the brown suede back panel, as well as missing makeup compact, otherwise in good condition.
