215 pp. With 64 hand-colored maps (on 60 sheets), including 43 double-page maps (1 of which is folding); engraved title page. (Folio) 44.5x37 cm (17½x14½"), original gilt-lettered brown cloth, rebacked and re-cornered with modern morocco, new endpapers. Printed by F. Bourquin. First Edition.
Cowan remarks that "for many years this was the standard authority." Contains a double-page map of San Francisco City and County and 63 plat maps showing the various blocks, lots, streets, parks and other features of San Francisco, including a folding double-page map of Golden Gate Park. Ink stamp on title page of D. Ernest Melliss, M.A, Ph.D., Mining and Civil Engineer, dated Jul 14, 1888; also on verso of some maps. The atlas was evidently used in his work. There are pencil notations and additions on some of the maps.
