Description
Offered is a beautiful etched Mettlach stein. It was made by Villeroy & Boch of Mettlach and is marked with the Abbey mark. The form or mold number is 1932; the capacity code is II. It is signed C. Warth (Christian Warth), one of Villeroy & Boch's finest artists and decorators; he designed for them from 1854 until 1892. The stein depicts a wonderful pub scene with two happy, bearded men in their 17th century costumes toasting one another. The two hanging banners in the scene collectively say, "Ein Glas beim Freund ist gut gemeint!" which means, "A glass with a friend is well meant!" The stein measures 8-3/4" to the top of the elf on the handle; it is 4" in diameter at the base. There are no chips, cracks or repairs!
