Modest Cuixart (1925-2007)
Modest Cuixart i Tàpies was a cousin of Antoni Tàpies and studied at the Academia de Pintura Lliure in Barcelona. While his first paintings were strongly influenced by expressionism, his later works were inspired by abstraction and Art Informel. In 1948, the painter co-founded the artist group ‘Dau al Set’, which also included his uncle Antoni Tàpies. In the 1950s, Cuixart’s paintings gained international notoriety. He participated in the Biennial of Sao Paolo, the documenta in Kassel and the Venice Biennial. The painter spent the end of his life in Girona in Catalonia, and in Paris. (cko)
