Description: Group of four tea cozies, c. 1880-1900, all hand worked.1. Entirely hand beaded, both front and back, of flowering branches and leaves, in purple, white, green, blue, brown and red. Edged with brown and gold silk passimentier trim, and lined with quilted brown silk.2. Red silk velvet, with hand painted decoration of white lilies on one side and pink old fashioned roses on the other. Edged with burgundy silk passimentier and lined with purple silk velvet to the outer edge and ivory silk quilting.3. Black silk hand painted with pink old fashioned roses, and edged with black ruffles. Trimmed with black silk passimentier and lined with quilted black silk.4.Tea cozy in the penny quilt pattern, made up of various silk fabrics. Lined in ivory silk, with a removable padded insert of muslin. Trimmed in rose, green and ivory silk.

History: A tea cosy (American English: tea cozy) or tea warmer is a cover for a teapot, traditionally made of cloth. It insulates a teapot, keeping the contents warm. Their use predates the invention of vacuum bottles as a means of keeping hot liquids hot.

1. Wonderful condition, no loose beading, or damage to silk. Some seperation of trim at the top. 2. Colours vibrant, paint intact, but some fading to trim. Light wear to purple silk interior edging, and age wear to interior quilting. 3. Silk is in wonderful condition, both inside and out. Some wear to paint. 4. Great condition, few light climate stains.
