Description
9th-7th century BC. A bronze jar with squat body, broad tubular neck, flared rim, deep shoulder, ring of domed bosses to the obverse surrounding a short spout formed as a female mask with deep eye sockets, applied panel to the reverse with domed boss attachments. From the collection of a North West London gentleman; acquired in the 1980s. Cf. Muscarella, O.W. Bronze and Iron. Ancient Near Eastern Artifacts in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1988, item 347. 636 grams, 16.5cm (6 1/2").
