Description
Extremely Rare Pewter Hanukkah Lamp Menorah, Rhein Valley, Germany, 1737, Judaica.
The menorah is cast and engraved, the backplate depicts two ramping lions flanking a cartouche engraved - M 1737, topped with a Torah crown and a hole to enable hanging.
The eight oil fonts are under a hinged lid and set on four shape supports.
Detachable servant light (Shamosh).
Fine Patina.
Authentic example of 18th century pewter Hanukkah Menorah.
A similar Menorah appears in – Five Centuries of Hanukkah Lamps from The Jewish Museum, a catalogue raisonne, Susan L. Braunstein, The Jewish Museum New York, page 158, lot 161.
