Group of photos, manuscript letter, map and books relating to the opening ceremony of Dhahran International Airport designed by Minoru Yamasaki now King Abdulaziz Air Base) and Aramaco Oil. Photos include two contact sheets with excellent resolution, each with 12 photos depicting variously: The airport, King AbdulAziz of Saudi Arabia, Saudi Fighter Jets 61763, 3072, 31122. Larger photos with King Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia and his retinue and processional shots. Also included is a map of the Senior Staff Camp Dhahran showing locations of homes, yacht and boat club, theatre and golf driving range. The Dhahran Airfield became the Dhahran International Airport. and U.S. forces remained there until 1962 when Saudi Arabia chose not to renew their lease. Also included is an interesting, unsigned manuscript letter from March 26, 1961 concerning personal and intriguing thoughts on the withdrawal of the US Corps of Engineers from Dhahran International Airport.
