Translated from the English edition of 1797. Nearchus was one of Alexander's principal officers. In 325 BC he was ordered to take Alexander's fleet to the head of the Persian Gulf, and to circumnavigate Arabia from the Euphrates to the Isthmus of Suez. Nearchus's narrative of his expedition was included by Arrian in his "Indica" written in 2nd Century A.D.
