Description
The dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, and reserved for the exclusive use of the Emperor. Sumptuory laws were imposed to forbid anyone using dragons as ornaments. When a dragon design is used in a wood window panel, it can be taken for granted that someone was given the rights to use it. The design of dragons flows smoothly in this composition. The panel was once used in a mansion as a window, a reflection of the grandeur of the house. It is mounted onto a newer frame. Provenance: Shanxi Province, North Central China Date: 19th Century or earlier Dimensions: 34.5 inches wide, 26 inches high and 1.5 inches deep
