Description
Charles Meryon (French, 1821-1868). "Pont-Neuf", etching and drypoint on laid paper, later state of 10, unsigned. Print depicting a view on le Pont-Neuf, the oldest standing bridge across the Seine River in Paris, France, the viewer even with the waterline and looking up at the walkway with arched openings to its underside, wood scaffolding in the water behind boaters, architecture in the distance, and birds in flight above the scene as walkers peer down over the bridge's side. Framed approximately 16.125" x 15.5". Sheet size approximately 12" x 11.25". Plate size approximately 7" x 7.25". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Benno & Babette Rothschild, Columbus, Georgia.
