Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988)
Piero Fornasetti was born in Milan in 1913. A scholarship enabled him to study at the Accademia di Belle Arti in 1930, where he studied painting. After two years he left the academy and worked as a freelance artist. In 1933 he participated in the Milan Triennale. An encounter with the designer Gio Ponti led him into the direction of interior design and he soon began to decorate the surfaces of furniture with architectural images or trompe l'oeil painting. In 1970 he opened his own shop in Milan, where his designs can be purchased until today.
