Description
Rome, 2nd century CE. This is a pair of bronze fibulae (brooches) in the "knee" style, so named because archaeologists thought it resembled a bent knee and foot. These types of fibulae originated in Roman Pannonia, modern day Hungary, and have only been found in military graves -- they seem to have been very popular with the Roman army. Size: 1.5" L x 1.8" W (3.8 cm x 4.6 cm).
