Description
Rome / Byzantium, ca. 200 to 1000 CE. This is a grab bag of small bronze, silver, and silver gilt objects from antiquity. It includes a fibula, a horse and rider, a head of Silenus, a depiction of two monkeys in a dance troupe, and a delightfully realistic phallic pendant with ring for wearing on a chain. Together, these objects demonstrate the range of artistry in metal casting from these centuries. Size of largest: 2.5" W x 2.25" H (6.4 cm x 5.7 cm).
