Description
David Alfaro Siqueiros (Mexican, 1896-1974). "La Penitenciaria (The Penitentiary)" - 1930 (printed and signed in 1963), woodcut on J. Whatman watermarked wove paper, limited edition 43/300, pencil numbered lower left margin, pencil titled and dated lower center margin, pencil signed lower right margin. Print depicting a stylized figural grouping with mother and child at center holding a baby in a swaddle at her chest with dramatic vertical black bands of shadow. Verso of structure with COA from Korvette Art Gallery, New York, dated 1966, also with corresponding tag from gallery and biographical information. Framed approximately 15.5" x 13.125". Sheet size approximately 12" x 9.625". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Benno & Babette Rothschild, Columbus, Georgia.
