Description
Jean Emile Laboureur (French, 1887-1947). "Rural Postman" - 1924, engraving on watermarked BFK Rives paper, limited edition 22/65, monogrammed within matrix lower right "L", pencil titled lower left margin, pencil numbered lower right margin. Stylized engraving depicting a bicycle postman at center with mail bag draped over his shoulder approaching a female figure at right standing beside her home beneath a lofty tree, the composition characterized by heavy use of line to create form and an emphasis on parallel and crossing lines to create shadow and imply color. Sheet size approximately 8.625" x 9.75". Image size approximately 5.125" x 6.75". Note: an example of this work resides in the European Art Collection of the Brooklyn Museum, a gift of The Louis E. Stern Foundation, Inc.
