Born in Norwich into a family of successful artists, she was the oldest of landscape painter Alfred Stannard (1806-1889) and Martha Sparks. Her brother Alfred George Stannard(1828-1885), also became a painter. Eloise followed her aunt Mrs. Anna George Stannard's examlpe and chose to specialize in fruit and flowers and was probably taught by her father. She first began to exhibit in 1852 at the British Institution, and continued to exhibit there until 1866. She also exhibited at the Royal Society (1856-93), the Royal Society of British Artist (1856), the Royal Glasgow institute (1861) and the Society of Women Artists (1868-1902). She was made member of the last of those from 1871 to 1904.
