Description
Black attick LekythosMedium and technique: ceramics; black paint.Provenance: European private collectionSize: 16.5 cm high.Description: this lekythos belongs to the category of vessels with elongated pear-shaped body and distinct shoulder. Its shoulder and almost the whole body are polished, the rest is painted black. In the main scene, four female figures wrapped in a peplos are portrayed as picking grapes from vine shoots that frame them. Drapery is stylised, in bands that fall down slantwise along their body. Style and remarks: the shape of this lekythos with its body clearly separate from the neck by a pronounced carination suggests a dating around the first quarter of the sixth century BC.State of preservation: fragmented, with added parts by restoration.Dating: early 6th century BC.
