Description
3.5" t x 8" w, bank check issued by The Office of the Commissioner of the Freedman's Savings and Trust Co., Washington, DC, April 1st 1883. It is to the Order of Jonas Clarke and Nancy Clarke for 94c. It is signed by John J. Knox, Comm. ( President Ulysses Grant appointed Knox to Comptroller of the Treasurer in 1872.) Condition - check has 2 holes, 1 is .75" t x .25" w on part of Abraham Lincoln's face, and a .75" t x .25" hole affecting the name "Jay", otherwise very clean and crisp.
