Bhagat, who hailed from a prominent, local family in Calcutta. In fact, the vendor's brother (who went to the same college as vendors father), Mr. M.G. Bhagat owned Bengal Potteries in Calcutta, was the President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in 1968 and was also a member of the Board of the Reserve Bank of India, around that time.
