ULTRA RARE 1950's Vintage Tin Lithographed and Mohair Fur Covered Toy Wind-up Bear (or Monkey?) Reading the Newspaper while Smoking a Pipe. Made in Japan. An adorable little animal with tin eyeglasses on, smoking a pipe, and reading a tinplate lithographed newspaper that is called The Animal Times and reads No. 10.314 Africa, August 15, 1960. Some of the titles of the newspaper include, To Moon, Stars, Robot, and Animal Says. He's sitting on a tinplate lithographed base marked "Japan". The animal's face is tinplate lithographed and has felt ears and a ribbon bow around his neck. When wound, the animal holds the smoking pipe up and down towards his face, and moves paper up and down, and moves his face towards the pipe. An absolutely adorable little windup toy. First of it's kind that we've seen in over 50 years. Measures 6-1/2" tall.
