Description

German, Mermaid & Octopus inkwell, silvered metal, steel, iridescent slag glass, 8 7/8"w x 8 1/4"d x 2 3/4"h

Condition

Organic form with a slumbering mermaid on the left side amidst sea foliage, the pen tray at front in the form of a shell and an octopus at the back right has a hinged head serving as the inkwell (fixed steel insert, no glass insert). The center plate is an iridescent slag glass insert. Overall very good condition. Some rust at steel inkwell and near screws on underside holding the glass plate in. Spurious Tiffany & Co. stamped mark. Please be aware that this piece is stamped sterling silver, but we are unable to successfully determine whether or not it truly is.
