Description
Hermes (French, founded 1837). Circa 1987 designer “Torana” small silk twill scarf with Indian figural motif with elephants, birds, figures on horseback, sculpted lions on in architectural niches against yellow and orange within a brown ochre border-- title refers to the gateway seen in Buddhist or Hindu architecture throughout India and Southeast Asia. Marked title "TORANA" in frieze of lower central niche, "HERMES-PARIS" lower right on base of lions. Unmarked with designer's name but created by Annie Faivre. Overall measures approximately 16.25" x 16.75". Provenance: From the Estate of Karen F. Rohrer of Tucker, Georgia.
