Circa 1910, Washington D.C., marked to underside of foot ''Galt & Bro'', further marked ''Sterling'' and ''336'', of high-shouldered baluster form, all-over repousse-decorated with grape clusters, leaves and vines forming reserves to each side; the first containing the monogram ''GCP'' in script, the second inscribed ''To / Senator George C. Perkins, / From / Truxton Beale and his sister / In grateful acknowledgement of his / eloquent tribute to their / father / Washington / May 31st 1910'', with a grape-cordon-form handle issuing clusters of grapes and twining shoots, raised on a waisted socle over a circular domed foot, 17.75'' H x 9.5'' W x 7'' D, 58.085 oz troy approximately, est: $3000/5000
Note: The ''eloquent tribute'' mentioned in the inscription is in reference to Senator George C. At the Battle of San Pascal, the two men volunteered to crawl through the Mexican lines under cover of night and fetch reinforcements from the fleet at San Diego, thereby emerging as heroes.
