(2) DUTCH EAST INDIES DOCUMENTS - Passes for Ship's Crews, Island of Ambon, issued from Fort Victoria, March of 1809, Dutch East India Company (VOC), with text in Dutch and Arabic. Signed by Ney, Willems, others. Access to the island was strictly controlled, as it monopolized world clove production, a stalwart of the 'Spice Islands' of Indonesia. Ambon had just been returned to the Dutch by the Peace of Amiens in 1802, would go back to the British 1810 to 1814. On 9 1/4" x 7 1/4" & 12 1/4" x 9" sheets of laid paper with watermarks, corner off the largest.
