No.43 Astronomical Floor Regulator. 14 in. reverse painted glass astronomical dial with sweep minute hand and 5 minute hour numbers, 4.75 in. sub seconds dial over a 4.75 in. sub hour dial. Quality brass 8 day weight driven time only No. 2 movement signed "E. Howard & Co., Boston", has brass front and rear plates, fancy turned posts, deadbeat escapement, maintaining power, Geneva stop, beat adjustment at the top of the crutch, brass dust cover plates on the top and sides; 5 spoke pierced brass pulley, brass covered weight, steel pendulum rod with four-jar mercury filled coin spot Sandwich glass pendulum (numbered 55 over 2855-8) with jars made by the Boston & Sandwich Glass Co. (Boston, Mass), over a silvered beat indicator on a pierced carved riser. In a beautiful carved walnut floor standing case with shell carved crest over a figural maiden's head and carved drapery. the overhanging cornice top with large teardrop carved corbels on the side panels and on either side of the door, highlighted with burl walnut veneer inlays and incised carvings; the base has a large carved inset front panel, filigree carved corbels along the sides at the rear and stands on block feet.
