Description
11th-12th century AD. A mixed group of iron horseshoes, each tapering towards the ends and with a raised burr finial, with slightly lobed outer edge and six rectangular holes close to the border; two with nails in situ. Cf. Ward, G. Horse Shoes at Lewes Museum in Sussex Notes & Queries, Vol.VII no.2, 1938. 917 grams total, 10.5-13.5cm (4 - 5 1/4"). From a private European collection; formed in the 1980s.
