Description
Pair of finely glazed porcelain busts depicting King Louis XV and Madame DuBarry, both in the style of Meissen but possibly Samson. Both with under-glaze blue makers marks on base and titled in iron red, Du Barry 5.5"h, King Louis XV 5.25"h. Madame Du Barry was a woman of common ancestry who became the maitresse-en-titre (chief mistress) of King Louis XV. After his death she left Versailles. During the French Revolution, she was suspected of assisting emigrants who had fled the French Revolution and was beheaded.
Condition
Both are free from chips, cracks and repairs.
