Description
Rare Le-Camark scenic vase in gold lustre made in Camden, Arkansas most likely by Jennie Lessell, widow of John. The Ohio-Arkansas connection occurs when Jack Carnes, owner and originator of Camden Art Tile and Pottery Company, a Zanesville, Ohio native, sends Arkansas clay to John Lessell in 1927 to see how useful it would be and Lessell sends back finished pieces in his signature lustre style. Carnes agrees to hire Lessell and have him move to Camden. Sadly, John Lessell passes away soon after but his wife Jennie and some of his assistants moved to Camden and continue to make lustre glaze pieces in Arkansas that are signed Le-Camark. This is one of those uncommon pieces, properly signed and in excellent condition. Standing 13 3/8 inches tall and hand thrown, the vase has an intricate scenic design and seems to be in amazing original condition.
