Description
Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Tairona culture, ca 1200 to 1600 CE. Unusual and striking pendant depicting a hybrid dragon/jaguar figure cast in tumbaga - gold over copper base. The jaguar and dragon heads are shown sharing the same body with each animal's head positioned at either end. Notice the fabulous detailing, ie the dragon's spiraled crest and incised teeth and the jaguar's endearing snout and facial features, with suspension loop paws. Size and weight: 1-7/8" x 1-3/8" (4.8 x 3.5 cm); 15.1 grams.
Provenance: Ex- G. Martin collection acquired in the 1980s.
