Nic Tharpa Cartier
A student of many and various disciplines including metalwork, painting, drawing, and photography, Cartier received his BFA from Boston's prestigious School of the Museum of Fine Arts in conjunction with Tufts University. A world traveler and avid learner, he believes above all in radical authenticity, which he defines as "the fight to be fiercely authentic, true, and genuine, and to do it bravely and uncompromisingly." Nic's watercolor paintings are executed in the style of tattoo flash, and each piece is hand-created using traditional materials and methods. India ink and high quality colors are used to create bold, clean imagery, iconic in nature. Influences include Himalayan art, American traditional tattooing, henna art, and Mexican folk art.
