Horitaka (Takahiro Kitamura)
Born in Japan and raised in the United States, Takahiro Kitamura became enamored with tattoos during his high school years. He traveled to Japan in hopes of having a back piece done by Irezumi master Horiyoshi III, and the two became fast friends. A decade under the tutelage of Horiyoshi III prepared Takahiro for what has become a noteworthy career, and at the end of his apprenticeship he has since been known as Horitaka. Now an iconic tattoo artist of his own right, Horitaka is the author of eight published books and his own shop, State of Grace, in San Jose, California, is a destination for those who seek work by specialized artists. Horitaka embraces the mentality that tattooing is more than a mark on the body and he likes to think of the art as a philosophy.
