Horitomo
Under the guidance of world-renowned Irezumi master Horiyoshi III, his apprentice Horitomo displays such talent, diligence, and patience, that one day many suspect the student will surpass the teacher. Born Kazuaki Kitamura, Horitomo has been at the forefront of a new breed of pioneering Japanese tattooists for more than a decade. As an elementary school student, his interest was piqued by people with traditional bodysuits. Then, in 1992, he decided to get his first tattoo by Sabado of Eccentric Tattoo. Both men became fast friends and eventually the young Kazuaki became an apprentice. After three years there was an intense desire to travel as a means to see the world and learn from other artists, and Kazuaki Kitamura found himself in the US before returning to Japan where he approached Horiyoshi III about an apprenticeship. His renewed sense of cultural pride enabled him to fulfill his duties as a student under the great master, who then renamed his pupil Horitomo. Combining his life experience with the traditions of the past has resulted in the hallmark that is Horitomo's style.
