Porcelain with underglaze blue. China, 17th cent.
An attractive blue-white vase from the late Ming dynasty, richly painted with varied depictions. A six-faceted body encompassed by a landscape painting with high rocks, streaming waters and trees. Servants, two humorous horses as well as a group of scholars – or wise men – in long robes, closing in on a pavilion. Atmospheric and vivid depiction, lapped reserves on the shoulder with lotus flowers between vines. Floral decoration on the level hexagonal neck. Signs of age on the lip, small encrustations on the glazed bottom.
