PETER MILTON (AMERICAN, B. 1930) "PASSAGE I" SURREALIST PRINT, etching / intaglio, numbered "83/125", and titled, signed, and dated at bottom edge in pencil. Professionally matted and housed under glass in a modern frame. Circa 1971. 17 3/4" x 23 1/2" plate, 28 3/4" x 33 1/4" OA.

Catalogue Note: Peter Milton (b. 1930) is an important contemporary American artist whose unique style draws on surrealist themes and techniques. Born in Pennsylvania, Milton attended Yale University where he studied with Josef Albers and Gabor Peterdi. After a trip to Europe and graduate study back at Yale, the artist settled in Baltimore during the 1960s where he began to focus on printmaking. The present lot is a classic Milton work featuring precise detail, jarring spatial juxtapositions, and enigmatic psychological content.

Excellent visual condition. Frame with minor wear and very minor toning to paper. Not examined out of frame.
