Empire-Style Mahogany Secretaire a Abattant, mid-19th century, the plinth top above an ebonized molded frieze and a case fitted with a single drawer over a drop front, opening to a variety of drawers and cubbyholes, over two cupboard doors flanked to either side by ebonized columns with gilt capitals, raised on block feet, h. 61-1/4", w. 40-1/2", d. 22".

Columns, capitals, and bases have restored gilt, some loss to left column base. Desk lid, front lower doors, top and sides with shrinkage staining and some minor losses commensurate with age. Veneer repairs around both escutcheons. Piece has been nicely refinished, some loss to back of top. Brass knobs replaced.
