A Rare and Amusing Copeland Majolica Figural Emblematic of ‘Sloth and Mischief’ c.1875 after an original by Louis Auguste Malempré. Modelled as large monkey riding a tortoise, his tail passing around the tortoises neck to form reigns, all upon a turquoise ground and all supported on a cobalt canted cornered pedestal base. An Example is displayed at the Spode Museum, Stoke on Trent, England, 17"
