A group of fashion plates, English and French, mainly 1770-80s, approx 30, including an example from 1689 depicting stylish mother and daughter, fashionable modes for men, women and accessories (qty) Provenance: The late Harry Matthews collection

• Plate from 1689 – 7.2in by 10.4in (within black printed frame), approx. 11.9in by 8.4in complete. The print is cut out along the contour of personage and landscape and glued onto paper of the same quality, then glued onto a different kind of paper. Repairs along the upper edge of the frame. Minimal yellow staining in unprinted areas, discolourations in the crowns of the 2 big trees, discolourations and a folded corner on the paper to which the figures are glued, tear through the lady’s forehead and veil but this is faint. • Remainder of plates in generally good condition • Point de Convention – faint brown discolourations in background where glue was brushed • Waggoners frocks – bad crease down centre, 3 repairs on reverse, two small tears down right side and one down left side • Hats – 4 repairs to upper and lower edge • Small engraving of woman in pink dress – bad stains to background • 2 sailors – repair to tear down left side • Miss Lovejoy – very faint discolouration to background • The Modern Venus – a few small scattered foxing stains • Etude pour les Demoiselles – foxing spots to sky area • La March di Sauscisse – rust spots lower left corner • Ladies Muff – small watermark top right corner • Outsized hair adornment – bad creases to upper third, faint brown foxing marks, 0.5x3cm droplet stain to lower left corner
