Description

Two couture evening gowns, 1950s, comprising Pierre Balmain grey satin cocktail dress with undulating ivory bands, c.1955, with Lesage embroidery of chenille flowerheads with silver borders; together with a Lanvin Castillo ivory satin evening gown, c.1959, with elaborately beaded and sequined bodice edging, busts approx 97cm, 38in (2)

Condition

• Balmain dress is heavily altered. Wonderful Lesage embroidery. Waist and bodice are altered, 5cm panels of plain matching fabric (probably taken from skirt hem) have been inserted either side of the bodice. Droplet stains centre back above hem. Perspiration stains and wear at underarms. Waist 76cm, 30in • Castillo dress is altered, beading generally good and is superb. Perspiration stains and wear at the underarms. Large faint yellow stain on skirt front. Waist 71cm, 28in
