Description
English and Japanese, late 19th century. Collection of two tortoiseshell items comprising of a rectangular tortoiseshell veneered and mother of pearl inlaid card case with hinged top that opens to reveal storage within, unmarked; and a Japanese gold lacquered tortoiseshell inro box with rounded ends depicting a phoenix bird perched amid branches, opposite side with potted plant with flying butterfly overhead, unmarked. English card case measures approximately 3.75" x 2.75". Inro box measures approximately 4" x 2.25". Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Haugk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
