Description
19th century. A collection of six silver mounted master salt cellars comprising of four matching cellars of round form with cut crystal inserts raised on three downswept foliate feet surmounted by facial masks along insert body and joined at rim by band of silver with reeded scalloped edge, one with very faint hand incised mark to underside "20/184, ZR-1-1-4"; and a pair of German 800 sterling silver ovular master salt with glass inserts being decorated with wide band of reticulated figural scenes and mounted on four downswept feet with figural masks, each marked to side "Germany 800" beside an indistinguishable figural mark. Four cellars each approximately 2.25" tall, 4.5" wide at feet. Two cellars each approximately 1.875" tall, 3.25" wide. Provenance: Acquired at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, Chicago, Illinois, on October 4, 2010, Lot 943, whereby sold and acquired by Estate of Mary L. Haugk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
