Description
Emile Galle (French, 1846-1904), circa 1900. A signed marquetry inlaid two tier side or occasional table, the quatrefoil top with scalloped edges decorated with Thistle of Lorraine inlaid marquetry, the lower tier with serpentine edges and conforming inlaid thistle marquetry, all raised on four splayed legs. Table with inlaid mark to top surface "Galle". Approximate height 29.5", width 28.5", depth 19.75". Provenance: Sotheby's, New York "20th Century Decorative Works of Art", June 12, 1998 whereas sold as part of Lot 171, previously sold through Christie's, New York, March 3, 1994, sale 7844, The Barbara Streisand Sale as Lots 106-107. Condition
Table structurally sound and in very good condition with slight minor abrasions and indentations. Some scattered splitting and lifting to darker wood element on top. Loss on side of lower tier later refinished to match coloration. Light wear to legs and feet commensurate with age. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
