Item Details
Description
Lot consists of a Imperial Japanese Shinto Shrine. Wonderful use of the "kiku-no-go-mon" the exclusive priviledge of the Imperial family, the sixteen petal royal chrysanthemum. This symbol appears sixteen times in all, twice on the canopy, twice on the base of the shrine, on each end of both silver mounted carry poles, and four times on each of the supports. The royal chrysanthemum is consistently rendered in a size larger than the Shinto symbol, or tomoye, when the latter is usedin conjuction with the Imperial mon, further emphasizing the divinity of the Emperor. According to the original owner, this shrine was undoubtedly made for Imperial use, and its style, quality, and embellishment lead us to believe itwas constructed for Emperor Taisho, as an element of his investiture in November of 1915. This shrine is overall in excellent condition. Without the (2) supports, the overall size is approx. 48" high x 30" long x 30" wide. The carrying poles are approx. 49" long, and the (2) supports are approx. 18.5" high. Incredible detail throughout. This item would need professional packaging and crating services to be shipped, otherwise pickup is recommended.
