Description
Valentin Schuller, Frankfurt-am-Main, circa 1700. Octagonal body formed of cast panels of filigree topped by chased tile borders, obelisk form spire similarly pierced and with gothic crocket, the gallery base mounted with four guardian soldiers and raised on four scroll feet headed by lion masks. Marked twice on base with maker's mark and city mark.In the late 17th and early 18th century, Frankfurt specialized in using cast filigree panels in the construction of silver, especially Torah shields and parts of Sabbath lamps.Height 8 7/8"Provenance: Sotheby's, Important Judaica, December 4th, 2014, lot 171
