Description
S/N: 16604, .54 caliber, approximately 21" round barrel, blue/case hardened finish, walnut stock, purchased in quantity for use by Federal Cavalry, 1863-1864, Burnside was very popular for its accuracy and reliability, this is 5th model carbine with signature guide screw on side of frame and corresponding groove and the breach block, blade front and 2-leaf folding rear sight, ladder numbered 3 and 5 and faint cast steel stamped between rear sight and barrel bend, model markings on frame ahead of breach block matching, 2 line address on lockplate, underside of forearm faintly marked "RAW", left side of wrist in rectangle, in written script "RAW" in cartouche, smooth buttstock with swing swivel, left side of frame has saddle ring.
Condition
Approximately 92% of slightly faded original blue, few minor marks on barrel, lever breach block and tangs retain approximately 90% of bright, original high polish blue, case colors bright and vivid, 75% remaining, stock very good with few dents in wood, mechanically excellent.
