Description
Northen Italy, 17th century
Crucifix
Polychrome gilded wood
A remarkable sculpture with a powerful anatomical rendering and a strong expressivity in the face. To be attributed to a talented artist, probably originating from the Po Valley, with an education
issued from the Renaissance still but active in the first half of the 17th century, as seems to be indicated by the complex development of "panneggio" - a technique in order to render the molding and
folds of the drapes - of the large perizonium.
Height: 87 cm /34.2 inches
(In very good condition, apart from a few losses of pictorial matter on the right leg.)
