Description
Chinese Carved White Jade and Zitan Table Screen; 19th c. Finely carved white jade of round disc with a hole in the center, having circle knob to the center, framed with carved zitan of dragons between flames and clouds, and a footed base. Alternately on main center panel, carved with gilt characters. Jade feels moist and is a creme-white milky appearance with nature fissures of golden russet inclusions.

Bi (Pi) disk,
Carved jade disc with a hole in the center, used for ritualistic or emblematic purposes. The earliest examples are undecorated and date from the Neolithic age (10,000 BC onward), while later examples become more highly decorated. Although not known for sure, they are assumed to represent symbols of the sun or of heaven.
