Description
Lot of 3, including a pamphlet entitled: Constitution and By-Laws of Oriental lodge No. 10, I.O. of O.F. Instituted July 10th 1842, By-laws and Rules Adopted Sept. 15, 1842, printed by Samuel G. Andrews, Boston, 1842, a octodecimo (4.2 x 6.4 inches) pamphlet in yellow printed wraps with 36pp with hand sewn binding. Name of original owner, John G. Ongersott inked at top of front wrap. This was the first Odd Fellows lodge in Boston. ‘P.G. Frost was admitted as a member of the grand Lodge of Massachusetts in 1842. And during that session he presented a petition signed by himself and eight associates, for the charter of Oriental Lodge No. 10, to be located in the city of Boston. Upon the institution of the Lodge he became its first Noble Grand.’ (Annual Communication of the Grand Lodges of the United States, Baltimore, 1873; pg 5873). The second item in this lot is a large horizontal 8vo (7 x 9.75 inches) pamphlet entitled: Souvenir Program Masconnomet Lodge, No. 49, I.O.O.F., Fair, in illustrated light card stock wraps, printed by The Daily News Press, Newburyport, Mass., 1907. With 18 numbered pages, most filled with advertisements, most illustrated. The last item is a 4.75 x 8 inch printed handbill headed: I.O.O.F. Fair Town Hall, Rowley, January 23, 24, 25, & 26. 1907.
Condition
1st minor wear to wraps and light scattered foxing, Very Good; 2nd 2.5 inch tear in front wrap and fading, else Very Good; 3rd light soil at top, else Very Good.
