EDWARD VIII: (1894-1972) King of the United Kingdom January - December 1936. Later Duke of Windsor. A good A.L.S., Edward P, as Prince of Wales, two pages, 8vo, St. James' Palace, 9th May 1921, to Leila Gough-Calthorpe, on the Prince's personal monogrammed stationery. The Prince writes to thank his correspondent and the Commander-in-Chief for their hospitality and for making him very comfortable, adding that he is sorry his stay was so short and remarking 'I would far sooner have remained at Portsmouth these next few days so as to escape all these "Japs" in London who have come at a very inopportune moment & are really a great nuisance just now!' Accompanied by the original envelope (stamp torn away) hand addressed by the Prince to The Hon. Leila Gough-Calthorpe at Admiralty House, Portsmouth, and signed ('EP') by Edward with his initials in the lower left corner. About EX.
