Description
Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1400 CE. A hand-built greyware vessel, the body of which assumes the form of a gourd or fruit, with a figure hovering over the front and back sides, seemingly looped around the neck of the piece. Note the expressive wide-eyed, smiling visage on the front side and legs and curled tail on the back. Size: 5-3/4" x 5-1/2".
Provenance: Ex-private Pavao collection, PA, acquired before 1980.

Minor nicks to rim and tiny old puncture to forhead of applied face. Normal surface wear. Overall very good.
